Heights are shown 1.8 times taller than they are, so the low shield volcanoes stand out; summit figures are the real heights.

How to use the map
Drag to move. On a phone, use two fingers to move, pinch to zoom and twist to turn; one finger keeps scrolling the page. With a mouse, right-drag to tilt and turn, and hold Ctrl or Cmd while you scroll to zoom. Tap a line, a dot or an animal for a card with a photo and a link. Every place in the list below has a 3D button that flies the map there, and you can link straight to a place: /explore/#sierra-negra.
The ferry to Isabela
The public speedboat leaves Puerto Ayora at 06:00 and 14:00, runs out past Tortuga Bay and crosses open sea to Puerto Villamil: 84 km on its OpenStreetMap line, about 2 hours. The San Cristóbal boat runs 80 km east, the Floreana boat 64 km south. There is no direct boat between Isabela and San Cristóbal. Ferry times, prices and the seasickness meter.
Volcanoes
Six shield volcanoes make up Isabela and Fernandina. The highest point is Volcán Wolf at 1,670 m; Sierra Negra (1,110 m) is the one you can hike, as a day tour from Puerto Villamil. On Santa Cruz the road from Puerto Ayora climbs into the green highlands, where wild tortoises graze at El Chato. Sierra Negra hike · El Chato tortoise reserve.
The sea floor
The islands sit on a shallow platform. Off its edges the sea floor falls away fast: south of Isabela it reaches about 3,900 m inside the map frame. The ferry to Isabela crosses that deeper, open water, which is why it can be rough. Switch off Sea floor to see the plain water.
